Teaching Advice from Mary Poppins

I think this is good advice to take in as teachers in a workplace. Are you finding the fun in your job?

Of course, it is also useful to reflect on how you are incorporating “fun” for your students. (I put fun in quotes because I can be a stuffy teacher that prefers terms like engagement instead.)

A simple way I find “fun” is to vary how my students interact (whole group, individual, partners, small groups) all in one class period (or at the very least over a couple of class periods). I also aim to add novelty regularly.  This can be a hands-on activity, a new strategy for organizing text, or even an unexpected picture or joke.
