Prime Day Deals for Science Teachers
This blog post is a round-up of Amazon deals and will be updated many times over the next couple of days (I’m going hiking with my mom Monday so I’ll the first update will be Monday evening!). I make a commission if you use any of the affiliate links I have in this blog post, so if you do, thank you for the support! *Update at 9 p.m 7/15 – Two of the best prime deals for science teachers in my opinion are: One, the book coupon (Save $5 off any print book purchase $15+; scroll down for some science teacher book suggestions!) and two, the LifeStraw.
First and foremost, if you don’t have Amazon Prime you can get a free 30 day trial here OR get a free 6 month trial with an .edu email here for Prime Student (see, going for that master’s degree pays off in more ways than one).
Amazon has its own guide to prime day here. They also have a great list of 63 ways to use your prime membership ICYMI (in case you missed it)!
For any prime day deals, there are some extra special savings that can apply to practically any order (if you qualify):
- Get a $10 Amazon credit for signing into Amazon App for the first time (and another $10 Amazon credit after your first in-app purchase!).
- Install Amazon Assistant on your home computer and get $10 off your next $50 order.
- Get a $10 bonus when reloading $100 or more to your Amazon Gift Card balance.
- One of my fav amazon prime deals (because I’m simple like that). Save $5 off any print book purchase $15+ – just use coupon code PRIMEBOOK19. Here are some book suggestions for some science teacher inspiration:
- Notable Notebooks: Scientists and Their Writings by Jessica Fries-Gaither (Great real life science journal examples for science teachers doing notebooks!)
- Dive into Inquiry: Amplify Learning and Empower Student Voice by Trevor MacKenzie
- Experience Inquiry: 5 Powerful Strategies, 50 Practical Experiences (Corwin Teaching Essentials) by Kimberly L. Mitchell (One part practical guide, one part interactive journal, this book provides the opportunity to do inquiry as you read about it.)
- Make Just One Change: Teach Students to Ask Their Own Questions by Dan Rothstein & Luz Santana
Science teachers need weird things. Here are my top two tips for science teachers for the 2019 prime day sale:
- The “Business & Industrial” category for Prime Day deals is a good place to check out to see if any of your needed weird things are on sale.
- Check the science education best-sellers and if anything is on sale a blue “prime day deal” box will be visible.
And here is a list of general science-y things most science teachers can appreciate/use on sale:
- LifeStraw Personal Water Filter (There are related water filtration lesson ideas here and here!)
- Set of 12 Pairs of Safety Glasses (Adult Size for High Schoolers)
-
Child’s Size Safety Glasses for less than $1 each!

- Grow a garden in your classroom with an Aerogarden

Here are some STEM/STEAM toys and gadgets:
- The most economical kit based on Arduino platform to starting programming for beginners (Ages 10+)
- Dremel Digilab 3D20 3D Printer (Okay, yeah I can’t afford this either but I was granted this through Donor’s Choose so I recommend this even if you are unable to get it yourself on Prime Day!)

Here’s some general teacher stuff to check out that is supposed to be on sale:

- 60 Count of Glue Sticks for Interactive Notebooking (and other things too)
- Scissor Caddy with 24 Pointed Scissors

- Expo Markers with all the colors!
- Up to 80% Off Kindle Book Bestsellers; Some good choices for science teachers include:
While you are checking out Prime Day deals, you might even find great deals on non-sale items. For example, I found this Set of 20 Pocket Size Fresnel Lens Magnifier (or Fire Starter) that can cheaply make a class set of magnifiers. Personally, I’m keeping an eye on the AmazonBasics Laminator.
OH, AND OF COURSE don’t forget to check out Target’s competing sales!
